B. Rowe & Co. is pleased to announce our exclusive collaboration with The Polka Dot Palm, located along the Albemarle Sound in Edenton, North Carolina. In collaboration with Brooke, the owner of the popular shopping destination, this unique collection of paper gifts and stationery recounts the history of one of the earliest organized women's political movements in American history.
On October 25, 1774, Mrs. Penelope Barker organized fifty-one women in Edenton, North Carolina, at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth King. Together, they formed an alliance which firmly opposed the concept of "taxation without representation."
After the Tea Act of 1773, the Provincial Deputies of North Carolina decided to boycott all British tea and cloth received after September 10, 1774. In an agreement signed by the women of Edenton, they pledged to provide memorable proof of their patriotism and to not remain indifferent to any event that threatens the peace and happiness of our country stating "it is a duty that we owe, not only to our near and dear connections . . . but to ourselves.”
The completed collection captures the town's long revered history in attractive paper and stationery goods that you can enjoy having for yourself or gifting to others. On behalf of B. Rowe & Co. and The Polka Dot Palm, I would like to thank you for shopping this unique collection. We are grateful for your continued support of small businesses.
All my love,
Emily Davis
